Description
Italian ro-ro ship launched in 1968 and owned by the powerful shipping company Ignazio Messina. It stranded on the beach of Formiciche near Amantea on the western coast of Calabria, Italy on December 14 1990, after having nearly sunk - officially as a consequence of leaks sprung in the hull. A number of journalist investigations, among which the one conducted by Riccardo Bocca of l'Espresso magazine have documented the highly suspicious character of the sinking. The crew abandoned with great hurry the ship when it was still possible to save it. The port authorities of Vibo Valentia recovered 17 containers in the hold, of the 25 which were present at the departure from Valletta, Malta. In the aftermath of the incident the owners of the ship employed Smit Tak, a Dutch company expert in dealing with cases of radioactive contamination. Caesium traces have been detected in the vicinity of the ship, and in different areas on the coast where it is suspected that the content of the Rosso has been illegally disposed after the accident. The dossier "Affondamenti Sospetti" (suspicious sinkings) published in 2009 by Italian environmental NGO Legambiente declares that "previously it had been rented by the Italian government to bring back from Lebanon to Italy 9532 drums of toxic waste exported illegally by Italian enterprises". In 1988 Giorgio Comerio, an entrepeneur involved in the traffic of toxic waste, had tried to purchase the ship in order to use for its infamous project of sea disposal of radioactive waste.

Description
Italian chemical tanker ship, launched in 1983, and owned by Trasmare group. It sank on February 1, 1991 off Molfetta in Puglia, Italy with a cargo of 3.550 tons of toxic waste (dichloroethane and acrylonitrile) produced by Enichem, the state-owned chemical company. Only part of the cargo was recovered after the accident. It was sailing from Gela in Sicily to Ravenna, in the Northern Adriatic coast of Italy. The sinking caused severe chemical pollution. Journalists and experts have argued that sinking was fraudulent. It has been demonstrated that Enichem has dumped tons of toxic waste produced by his coastal chemical plant of Manfredonia in Puglia directly into the sea of Gargano in south-eastern Italy, not far from where Alessandro Primo sank.

Description
Cargo ship flagged by St. Vincent & the Grenadines with 4037 tons, gross tonnage. In Lloyd's records, it would have been dismantled on January 28th 1992 in the infamous ship cemetery of Port Alang in India. On the contrary 'ndrangheta turncoat Francesco Fonti declares he sank this ship in 1992, 11 miles off Cetraro on the western coast of Calabria using dynamite sticks placed in the stem. A rov (Remotely operated underwater vehicle) sent by the environmental authorities of Calabria region to the location indicated by Fonti identified a wreck with a gash in the stem from which suspicious barrels could be glimpsed. Mare Oceano the ship sent by the Ministry of the environment to investigate the case, established that the wreck was not the Cunski, but the Catania a ship sunk during the First World War by a German submarine. No abnormal radioactivity was detected in the waters around the wreck. Some people, including Francesco Sesso, a famous undersea photographer, have questions the credibility of such examinations and suspicions continue to hover over the case. The Mare Oceano which conducted the official examinations is controlled by Diego Attanasio an important shipping entrepeneur in Naples who has been allegedly involved in dealings with David Mills, the UK lawyer who received a bribe of $600,000 from Silvio Berlusconi.
